Ataraxia

Ataraxia stands quietly, stopping to feel the soft breeze gently tousles her mane and tail. She closes her eyes, loosing a deep breath.

I often find it hard to describe how a sculpture came to be. For this mare, she was something in the back of my mind, with  no name, for years. Just a head of a mare, wind in her mane and her eyes closed as if taking in the moment. Then, while reading a book (iykyk), I discovered her name, "Ataraxia".  An ancient greek word meaning "a serene calm", "unperterbedness","tranquility". Inner Peace.  Being in an era of seemingly unending certainty, its sometimes hard to be present with yourself and know that you've made it this far, and that even with the current state of things, we can still find our safe spaces.

Ataraxia depicts an Arabian cross mare. Most of my references were Morabs, but I'm sure she could work for a number of crosses. Just think, she can be ALL the colors!  She has a delicate, slender build with soft muscling and veining throughout. I wanted everything about this mare to ooze "soft". She stands with one hind leg cocked. Her expression really lets you have fun with her story, I am truly excited to see her in fun photography set ups, and how she fits in with your herd!
